In this blog I am hoping to challenge the stigma surrounding mental health in Ireland and indeed the whole world.
I have recently begun my many adventures through the mental health services in Ireland. I have received a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder also known as BPD, with panic disorder, obsessional traits and post traumatic stress disorder also known as PTSD (and I thought I was normal!).
When I received my diagnosis I was completely ignorant as to what all these things were, so like any modern day girl I googled my little heart out. What I saw scared me so bad, I thought I had been handed a life sentence and this was the end of the line for me. The amount of terrible things I read made me think “Good grief, am I going to turn into one of these people?!” when I went back to my doctors and asked I realised that a lot of what I had read was very biased, fear based, stigma!
Mentally ill people are so normal it is actually scary. I hope to prove through this blog, that we can be talented, normal, productive, intelligent people. I hope to challenge the views that are prevalent all over the web and have a laugh while doing it 🙂
That’s all I will say for now, but I do hope you read more and get involved! Ranting, questions, comments, criticism and everything in between is welcome here. Tinfoil hats are by the door but not mandatory 😉
